Why hybrids suit many sore backs
A hybrid's coils do the heavy lifting: they hold the pelvis up so the lower back does not bend, and each pocketed coil moves on its own so the bed can respond to different parts of your body. How to read a hybrid listing
- Coil count is listed for a specific size (usually queen). More is not automatically better, but very low counts in a large bed are a warning sign.
- Coil layer height matters more than count for deep support. The Plank Firm Luxe lists 6 inches; Nolah lists 8.
- Comfort layer decides how the first few inches feel: memory foam (slow, hugging), responsive foam (bouncy), latex, or a polymer grid.
- Zoning in the coils (Nolah, Serta NXG) or in the foam (Casper) is worth having for lower back pain.
